Panama City family guide
Panama City puts a world wonder within a taxi ride of your hotel: kids watch ships as long as streets rise and sink in the canal locks. The same day can hold sloths in a rainforest park, bike rides along the Amador Causeway and ice treats in the pastel plazas of Casco Viejo. Flights are short from the US, the currency is the dollar and the dry season runs January to April.
Create a Panama City activity bookBest ages
Ships, sloths and boats work for every age, while 7-12 year olds get the most from the canal film and the Biomuseo story of how Panama's land bridge rose.
Stroller
The Cinta Costera seafront and the Amador Causeway are wide, flat and perfect for strollers. Casco Viejo has cobbles and narrow sidewalks, and many other streets have none, so pack a carrier too.

Safety notes
- From May to November heavy afternoon storms with lightning are common, so plan outdoor visits for the morning and shelter quickly when thunder starts.
- Traffic is heavy and drivers do not always stop at crossings, so hold hands near roads and use the footbridges where you find them.
- Tap water in the city is treated and widely drunk, but use repellent against mosquitoes, especially near forest parks at dusk.
