Riga family guide
Riga is the biggest city in the Baltics, but its old town is small enough to cross in fifteen minutes and full of things children notice: a black cat on a rooftop, four animal musicians standing on each other's backs, golden roosters on church spires. Add a giant food market in old airship hangars and a sandy beach half an hour away by train, and it is an easy, good-value city break.
Create a Riga activity bookBest ages
Most of Riga suits children from about 4, and older kids also enjoy the car museum and the stone carvings and faces on the Art Nouveau buildings.
Stroller
Old town streets are cobbled and a few tower stairs are narrow, but parks, the canal paths and the Art Nouveau district have smooth wide pavements.

Safety notes
- Baltic Sea beaches at Jūrmala are shallow but can have currents on windy days, so swim near lifeguard posts and keep little ones within reach.
- Cobbles and tram rails in the old town catch small wheels and scooters, so walk with children on the narrow streets.
- Tap water is treated and safe, though many locals prefer bottled for taste, and winter pavements can be icy from December to March.
