Jeju family guide
Jeju is a volcanic island off Korea's south coast where families climb a crater at sunrise, watch women divers come in from the sea and pick tangerines straight off the tree. Distances are short, roads are good and a rental car turns each day into a loop of beaches, waterfalls and black-stone villages. Spring brings yellow canola fields; autumn brings clear hiking weather and the first tangerines.
Create a Jeju activity bookBest ages
Children of 5 and up manage the Seongsan Ilchulbong stairs and short Hallasan trails; full summit hikes suit only fit children of about 10 or older. Beaches, farms and aquariums work well for younger ones.
Stroller
Promenades in Jeju City, Jungmun and around the waterfalls' upper paths are fine for strollers. Crater climbs, lava-rock coasts and mountain trails are stairs and uneven stone, so bring a carrier.

Seongsan Ilchulbong and the haenyeo divers Ages 5+
Climb about 20-30 minutes of steps up this sunrise crater for a view into the bowl, then watch the haenyeo women divers on the beach below, usually in the early afternoon if the sea allows. Entry is about ₩5,000 for adults and less for children.
Hallasan via the Eorimok trail Ages 7+
Hallasan is South Korea's highest mountain, and the Eorimok trail to the Witse Oreum shelter is roughly a 4-5 hour return hike through forest and open meadow. Entry is free and no reservation is needed for this trail, but start early as entry closes in the afternoon.
Hyeopjae Beach Ages 2+
Shallow, clear water over white sand with Biyangdo island floating offshore makes this the classic toddler-friendly beach on the west coast. Lifeguards are on duty in the summer season, roughly July and August.
Tangerine picking Ages 3+
From roughly November to January, family-run orchards let children fill a basket with gamgyul tangerines and eat as many as they like on the spot. Expect about ₩5,000-10,000 per person including a small bag to take away.
Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls Ages 4+
Jeongbang falls straight onto the beach into the sea, while Cheonjiyeon sits in a green gorge in Seogwipo with an easy flat path. Each costs only about ₩2,000 for adults and both fit in one afternoon.
Rainy-day and cold-day options
Aqua Planet Jeju

Nexon Computer Museum
A hands-on museum in Jeju City where children play classic arcade and console games from past decades.
Jeju National Museum

A simple first day
- Morning
- Pick up the car and drive to Hyeopjae Beach for a paddle in the shallows.
- Afternoon
- Head south to Seogwipo for Cheonjiyeon and Jeongbang waterfalls.
- Evening
- Eat black pork barbecue and stroll Seogwipo's Olle Market for snacks.
Getting around
Flights from Seoul take about an hour, and most families rent a car at Jeju Airport; foreign drivers need an International Driving Permit. Without a car, airport limousine buses reach Jungmun and Seogwipo and local buses cover the coast, though slowly.
Food kids like
Jeju black pork grilled at the table is the island's signature, and children usually like gogi-guksu pork noodle soup, mild abalone porridge and sweet hallabong tangerines. Seafood restaurants by the harbours serve lunch from about 11:00 and many close by 21:00.
What Jeju costs for a family

Safety notes
- Hallasan weather changes fast, so carry layers, water and snacks and turn back if cloud or wind builds; trails close to new entrants in the afternoon.
- Jeju's coast is windy and waves can surge over the black lava rocks, so keep children off wet rocks and swim only at lifeguarded beaches in season.
- Traffic keeps right, speed cameras are everywhere, and children under 6 must ride in a car seat, which rental firms provide if booked ahead.
